Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Darren Anderton has taken to Twitter this afternoon in order to send a message to Spurs ace Harry Winks after he signed a new contract with the club.

Winks, 21, has come up through the ranks with his boyhood club Tottenham, and two appearances in all competitions last season, he has really come to the fore this season.

The central midfielder had made some substitute appearances and a couple of EFL Cup starts earlier this season before being thrown in for his first Premier League starts against West Ham in November – and he responded by scoring in a 3-2 win for Spurs.

Winks has made 16 appearances since that night, meaning he has now played in 25 games for Tottenham this season, and continues to develop under Mauricio Pochettino.

Winks actually signed a new contract with Spurs back in September, but has today earned another new deal with the club, signing on the dotted line until 2022.

Having signed a new and improved contract, Winks will now be hoping to kick on and nail down a spot in the Tottenham first team, amid strong competition from Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele.

Darren Anderton, who racked up almost 300 league appearances for Tottenham during a 12-year spell with the club, took to Twitter to tell Winks that his new deal is ‘fully deserved’ – and many Spurs fans will feel the same way.
