The duo made their debuts for West Ham in the 3-1 victory.

New West Ham United signing Felipe Anderson looks on during a friendly match between Aston Villa and West Ham United at Banks' Stadium on July 25, 2018 in Walsall, England.

Felipe Anderson and Fabian Balbuena were both handed their West Ham United debuts by starting the Hammers’ 3-1 win over Championship side Aston Villa on Wednesday night – and both reacted on Instagram after the match.

Michail Antonio, Marko Arnautovic and Robert Snodgrass all got their names on the score sheet before Adrian conceded a late consolation to Villa youngster Andre Green, with the match played at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.

Balbuena, 26, started the match alongside Anderson and came off at half-time to give fellow new recruit Issa Diop a run out, while Anderson also left the field of play at the break – allowing Snodgrass to enter the fray.

Both new signings reacted on Instagram, underlining their delight at pulling on a West Ham jersey for the first time, with Anderson captioning a post with: “Very happy”, while Balbuena claimed “the best is yet to come.”

West Ham are next in action against a third successive Championship side, facing Ipswich Town on Saturday after playing against Hull City and Villa.

Competition for places will be aplenty, as the days begin to tick down on the club’s Premier League opener at Anfield against Champions League finalists Liverpool.
