Everton could still scupper Liverpool’s chances of signing Ugurcan Cakir, with Fanatik reporting that Carlo Ancelotti is keen for the Toffees to sign the Turkish international this summer.

While the future of Trabzonspor’s number one continues to dominate the headlines in Turkey, the smart money is on a move to Merseyside. Which corner of Stanley Park Cakir ends up at, however, is another matter entirely.

Speaking to Takvim this week, former Trabzon boss Sadi Tekelioglu claimed that the £45 million-rated goalkeeper was Anfield bound.

“Liverpool will sign Ugurcan Çakır at the end of the season. Trabzonspor will not say no to Liverpool’s offer,” says the coach, claiming that the 24-year-old is every bit as talented as AC Milan wonderkid Gigi Donnarumma.

“I met with Ugurcan. He told me that Liverpool took care of him.”

But until Cakir is posing in front of the Kop End with a red scarf draped around his neck, Everton will still be in the race.

Perhaps encouraged by a series of erratic performances from Jordan Pickford, whose form at club level is becoming increasingly concerning, reports now claim that Ancelotti wants Farhad Moshiri to dig deep and bring Cakir to Goodison Park.

The big decision, then, is likely to come down to the man himself.

After putting Trabzonspor on the verge of their first Super Lig title since 1984, you’d think that Cakir would want to play regular first-team football for the foreseeable future. And given that Liverpool have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world right now – the oft-unbeatable Alisson Becker – Everton could have a trump card up their sleeve.
