Ancelotti praises ‘really important player’ Everton have reportedly put up for sale

Fabian Delph made his first Everton appearance of the season in the 5-2 thrashing of Fleetwood last night.

Carlo Ancelotti rotated his entire midfield and that meant a game for the England international.

The Italian told Everton’s official website he was impressed with Delph’s performance.

He also stated his importance to his squad, despite a report in the Times earlier this month which said Everton want to sell Delph.

“Fabian adds experience and knowledge. He is a really important player, with experience of playing at the top level.

“It was a comfortable performance for him and he did well. He was comfortable on the pitch and helped his teammates.”

It was Delph’s first Toffees outing since February, and in the meantime, Ancelotti has bought himself a brand new midfield.

Tom Davies started ahead of Delph against Salford, but Southampton are reportedly interested in the academy graduate, according to Sky Sports.

So is Ancelotti trying to show Delph he has changed his mind and wants him as part of his plans?

Or is he trying to put him in the shop window; giving him a chance to show his ability and praising him afterwards.

Time will tell, and the fate of Delph at Everton could depend on the future of Davies before the end of the transfer window.

Delph may have an eye on Euro 2021, having gone to the last World Cup, and will know he needs to be playing regularly to have any chance of making it.
