Carlo Ancelotti told his pre-match press conference, ahead of Everton’s showdown with Leeds, that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ‘more powerful’ than the ‘really intelligent’ Patrick Bamford.

Two of England’s thriving strikers will clash at Elland Road tonight when the unpredictable Leeds take on Ancelotti’s European-chasing outfit, Everton.

Both Calvert-Lewin and Bamford are sitting on 11 Premier League goals, with the latter scoring and producing a Man of the Match display as Leeds secured three points at Leicester City over the weekend.

Ancelotti was asked to share his thoughts on the duo, as he stated that he has been seriously impressed with Bamford, even though he didn’t know who he was prior to his own arrival in England.

“Honestly, I didn’t know Bamford but he plays really well,” said Ancelotti. “He’s a really good striker. He scored a fantastic goal against Leicester.

“I didn’t know him before but I have to say that he’s a fantastic striker. To compare with Dominic, they, more or less, have the same qualities, the same characteristics.

“Maybe Dominic is more powerful. But in-game, Bamford is really, really intelligent.”

Whilst both Calvert-Lewin and Bamford have had different paths, it has still been some rise from the duo.

Not so long ag, Bamford was part of Chelsea’s jam-packed academy, and just like many others, he slipped away into England’s second-tier before finding a home at Leeds.

As for Calvert-Lewin, he moved to Goodison Park from Sheffield United in 2016 for £1.5 million (Sky Sports).

And whilst he didn’t show his goalscoring capabilities until Ancelotti walked through the Finch Farm doors, he has still been a bargain and smart capture from the Merseyside giants.
