Carlo Ancelotti admitted that Ben Godfrey’s performance ‘really surprised’ him during Everton’s win against Leeds on Wednesday night, as posted by the Liverpool Echo.

Since moving to Everton in the summer, Godfrey has played in numerous positions, including at fullback, and last night, in his favoured centre-back spot.

Well, the £20 million man (Sky Sports) didn’t disappoint, as Everton continue their march to finish in the European places at the end of the season.

After the match, Ancelotti heaped praise on Godfrey’s display and shared the qualities he brought to the table.

“Ben Godfrey played really, really well as a centre back,” said Ancelotti.

“I am really, really surprised about his performances because all the time he’s always there, playing 100%.

“He’s fast, he’s intelligent, he’s strong. I’m really pleased, really pleased.”

It’s been over 12 months since Everton appointed Ancelotti as their new manager and it’s fair to say that he has done some job.

They are heading one way and one way only, at this moment in time, and that’s to Europe.

For a number of seasons now, the heavy-spending Merseyside outfit have been trying to break that top-seven barrier.

And under Ancelotti’s stewardship and expertise, they have seemingly found the missing code.
