Tiger Woods is hosting the Hero World Challenge this week, an event limited to just 20 players, taking place in the Bahamas.

Coinciding with the Hero World Challenge are two other important tournaments: the Australian Open and the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Because of this scheduling overlap, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Viktor Hovland are all playing on different continents.

This is not an ideal scenario for anyone involved. Woods might be particularly frustrated with how things have turned out for his event this year.

This year’s Hero World Challenge line-up is not quite as stacked as it has been in previous years.

Scheffler, the current world number one, is set to play, but he will be joined by only three other top-10 players: J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, and Justin Rose.

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood are among those who have chosen to skip the event or play elsewhere.

On the Golf Channel Podcast, golf expert Rex Hoggard revealed he thinks Woods will be feeling “disappointed” that more big names have not made the trip to the Bahamas this time around.

“If I were Tiger Woods, I would be a little upset about this field. I think there are two top-10 players in the field, with Scottie Scheffler being the obvious one.”

“There was a time when you could pretty much guarantee most of the top 15 would be in this field, and then a handful who were outside.

“Yeah, if I’m Tiger Woods, I don’t know if upset is the right word, but I’m probably a little bit disappointed,” he stated.

Rex Hoggard understands why top players have chosen to skip Hero World Challenge

Although Hoggard pointed out that many top players are missing from the field, he made it clear that he does not fault them for their decisions.

Plenty of European stars have been travelling heavily on the DP World Tour, and some American players have also had other priorities recently.

“To be fair to the players who aren’t here, there are plenty of things going on in the world right now.

“Rory McIlroy is down in Australia, and he’s had a busy schedule in the fall. So have a lot of Europeans; you look at what Tommy Fleetwood has done this fall.

“You have players who played last week in The Skins Game who aren’t here. I totally understand that a lot is going on. We have the Golf Channel Games coming up in just a few weeks,” Hoggard concluded.
