Rangers striker Kemar Roofe has praised Leeds United star Patrick Bamford in The Times for scoring a hat-trick against Aston Villa last week.

Bamford scored a hat-trick for Leeds in their 3-0 win against Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League on October 23.

The 27-year-old English striker bagged all the three goals in the second half, and his former Leeds teammate Roofe was pleased for him.

Roofe was on the books of Leeds from the summer of 2016 until the summer of 2019 when he moved to Anderlecht.

The 27-year-old, who joined Rangers in the summer of 2020, has said that he sent a text to Bamford after his heroics against Villa and is pleased for his hat-trick.

Roofe told The Times about sending a text to Bamford: “I did, straight away. I was just happy and proud for him to score the hat-trick just because the way the Villa players were treating him.

“It was obviously because of the game with the whole little scuffle they had [in 2019, when Bamford was banned for two games for deceiving the referee into sending off Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi].

“Patrick was obviously fighting an uphill battle against them and then he came out victorious, getting a really good hat-trick.”
