Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared the latest on Ben White’s future amid reported strong interest from Arsenal.
It’s no secret that the Gunners want White this summer, they’ve submitted two bids for the defender, but as of yet, they’ve not had an offer accepted.
Castles claims that Arsenal are leading the chase amid reported interest from the likes of Everton and Chelsea, but as of yet, Brighton have not engaged in any serious discussions about the transfer.
What’s been said?
Castles shared an update on White and what it would take for a deal to be done.
“They (Arsenal) are the leading club chasing the Brighton centre-back, who was of course a part of England’s Euro 2020 squad. We also mentioned that Chelsea have entered a particular round of negotiations, but are waiting to see what Brighton’s asking price is,” Castles said.
“However, an interesting development has been that Brighton have so far not entered into any serious discussions regarding White’s future, they’ve named a price, which is a basic £50m fee along with add-ons, and potentially a sell-on fee as well.”

Too much
£50m, add-ons and a sell-on fee is simply too much for a defender of White’s calibre.
As talented as the defender is, the reality is that he’s played just one full season of top-flight football in a team that finished 17th.
How can you justify paying £50m for a player with such little top-flight experience?
It’s one thing to sign a prodigy who looks the real deal for that amount, but Brighton weren’t fantastic last season, and while White looked good, he wasn’t one of the best defenders in the division.
In our view, there are better deals to be done out there.
