Fabrizio Romano has said on The Arsenal Lounge that Arsenal are open to selling Nicolas Pepe.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that if an important bid comes in for Pepe, then Arsenal will consider it.
Romano has added that at the moment, the Gunners are not planning to sell the winger – who earns £100,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac – and will continue to persevere with him.
The journalist said on The Arsenal Lounge: “The feeling around the player is that Arsenal will try again with him, will try with Arteta also to build this consideration in Europe and let’s see what happens next season. But if an important bid will arrive Arsenal are open to consider, but at the moment it’s really difficult to have this money for this player.”
Pepe has been playing well for Arsenal in recent weeks, but there will always be question marks on the winger’s consistency.
Although the Ivory Coast international winger has scored some wonderful goals and has shown some brilliant skills, he has not always done it over the course of the 90 minutes week in and week out.
Signed from Lille in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £72 million, the winger has not really been ‘great’ in the Premier League.
It is hard to see any club pay £72 million for the winger this summer, and Arsenal are unlikely to sell him for a loss.
Pepe is still only 25, and there is still time for him to add consistency to his game and affect matches on a regular basis.
The winger has scored six goals and provided one assist in 14 Premier League starts and scored six goals and gave four assists in 10 Europa League starts this season.
