With it speculated that Stuart Pearce could select the Euro 2012 squad, are the FA simply trying to distract from the affect they have had on Tottenham Hotspur?

So the FA want Harry Redknapp right?

Well that is what we have been told since the very second Fabio Capello resigned in February, with FA Chairman David Bernstein making his own ‘personal scouting missions’ to watch Tottenham.

He stopped those once criticism of the FA becoming a distraction emerged, but it was too late, the Harry for England talk had already unsettled Spurs season with even fans split over whether he should stay or go.

The FA tried to quell upsetting Tottenham’s fanbase by announcing they would not appoint a manager until the end of the season, but Spurs continue to slide.

It has today been speculated in the press that Stuart Pearce, England’s caretaker manager, will pick the Euro 2012 squad, even though he may not manage them.

Now this seems like a recipe for disaster, with one manager picking the squad and another taking it from there, but then absolutely nothing surprises us with the FA nowadays.

What they could be trying to do rather, is deflect attention from their pursuit of Redknapp, and take the sting out of the disastrous slide that has occurred at Spurs.

Of course, to blame Tottenham’s slide entirely on the England situation would be short-sighted.

It more poignantly boils down to mismanagement by Redknapp, who let important squad members go on loan – Corluka, Pienaar- leaving his squad too thin, while he has been caught out tactically on many a occasion.

Spurs fell apart this time last year and he failed to stop it happening again. You wonder whether the FA are reconsidering whether they actually want him?

If Pearce is picking the squad, should he not just go the whole way and manage the team?

The Telegraph are reporting today that the FA will make an announcement as soon as the Premier League season ends on May 13.

If this is the moment they announce Redknapp, well it will be a real sore moment for Spurs fans, irrespective of where they finish, as it will seem as though they have been living through deceit for months.

Overall it seems like the FA have made an almighty mess of this, and we can’t say we fancy our chances much in the summer.
