Al Ahly have confirmed that Mohamed Magdy ‘Afsha’ has agreed a new contract in order to ‘put an end to speculation’ linking the midfielder with Celtic, as reported by the Daily Record.
With just a fortnight to go before the Egyptian giants face Zamalek in the CAF Champions League final, the last thing they needed was to see the future of their star midfielder cast into doubt.
Magdy’s agent told King Fut earlier this week that Celtic were ‘very interested’ in signing his £2 million-rated client in the January transfer window.
An attacking menace with seven goals and 10 assists in 39 games, it almost goes without saying that Al Ahly were desperate to keep hold of the Egypt international amid reported interest from clubs elsewhere in Africa too.
Fortunately, a deal has been agreed that will see Magdy commit his long-term future to the 42-time champions.
“Mohamed Magdy has agreed a new improved contract and is now more appreciated financially than in his previous contract,” Al Ahly state, suggesting that Magdy has been rewarded for his efforts with a substantial pay rise.

“We hope this will put an end to speculation about his future.”
Such claims will be music to the ears of Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie, who might have been concerned about the arrival of another attacking midfielder.
Neither the Frenchman nor the Scot have performed consistently this season, even if the latter did fire Celtic into the Scottish Cup final with a 25-yard wonder-goal in the last-four triumph over Aberdeen on Sunday.
