Massimo Brambati has suggested to TMW that AS Roma are using Tottenham Hotspur central defender Jan Vertonghen to bring down the price of Nicolas Nkoulou.

Vertonghen is out of contract at Tottenham at the end of next month, and with no new deal in place, it does seem that he will leave the North London outfit for good.

The 33-year-old may be past his prime, but the Belgium international remains a very good player who can compete at the highest level for two more years at least.

According to CalcioMercato, Roma (and Inter Milan) are interested in signing the former Ajax star on a free transfer this summer.

Former Torino defender Brambati, who now works as an agent, thinks that Roma are using Vertonghen to bring down the price of Nkoulou.

Brambati told TMW when asked about Roma’s reported interest in Vertonghen: “They want to satisfy Fonseca for a three-man defence, but I know that Petrachi has not let go of Torino’s Nkoulou, whose contract will expire next month. Maybe they are manoeuvring to lower Torino’s demands.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Nkoulou has made 19 appearances in Serie A and has played six times in the Europa League for Torino so far this season.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the Cameroonian centre-back scored two goals in 36 league matches for the Turin outfit, according to WhoScored.
