The former Celtic striker has raved about the performance of Forster for the Hoops this season.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at the Hoops from Premier League outfit Southampton and is now going back to the Saints.
Sutton wrote about Forster in The Daily Record: “For all the potential wheeling and dealing which could take place over the next couple of months if the transfer window gets up and running, the big keeper is an absolute must. If it takes all of the available transfer budget to get him, then so be it.”
Sutton added: “Lennon did not hesitate at the beginning of last season when it became clear that Forster could be available from Southampton.
“People raised eyebrows at the thought of Lennon raising the phone to his former No.1 because he’d been out for ages with serious injuries and then a spell of inactivity at St Mary’s.
“There were huge doubts. But it didn’t take long for them to be dispelled. Forster was straight back into the groove.”
Important player for Celtic
Forster was one of the best players for Celtic this season and made important saves throughout the campaign.
According to WhoScored, the England international played 28 times in the Scottish Premiership, seven times in the Europa League, once in the Scottish Cup and twice in the Scottish League Cup for Neil Lennon’s side this season.
Permanent Celtic move?
Forster was at Celtic from 2010 until 2014, initially on loan from Newcastle United, and he knows the club inside out.
The Englishman was brilliant for the Hoops this season, and it would make sense for the Glasgow giants to secure his services on a permanent deal, as he is clearly the best goalkeeper in Lennon’s squad at the moment.
However, it remains to be seen if the Saints will want to make any profit on the £10 million transfer fee they paid to Celtic for the goalkeeper back in the summer of 2014, as reported by The Guardian.
