Atalanta’s Germany international Robin Gosens is flattered by reported interest from Manchester City, telling Kicker that it is an ‘absolute honour’ to be linked with Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Premier League leaders might have splashed the cash like Augustus Gloop in the Cadbury’s World gift shop over the last few years, but a top-quality left-back remains elusive.

Benjamin Mendy was left out of the starting XI for 16 successive matches recently, with the right-footed Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo preferred.

But if City want a natural left-footer to solve something of a problem position in Guardiola’s star-studded XI, who better than a man who, since the start of last season, has blossomed into one of the most productive full-backs in European football?

In 33 games, Gosens has produced ten goals and seven assists this term for a fabulously free-wheeling Atalanta side who make Guardiola’s City look like Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that the 26-year-old’s match-winning displays have made him one of City’s top targets heading into the summer transfer window.

And the four-time Germany international is not exactly playing down the speculation.

“When the European elite have you on their radar and say that you might even be at the top of their list, that’s gigantic,” said the former Heracles flyer.

“An absolute honour.”

90Min reported last year that Atalanta value Gosens at around £25 million.

His current contract is due to expire in 2022, although La Dea could trigger a clause allowing them to extend his deal by a further 12 months.
