Tottenham Hotspur’s Dennis Cirkin impressed on Wednesday.
Tottenham fans are understandably excited about Troy Parrott’s future with the club, especially after spotting him in first-team training on Wednesday afternoon.
The teenager is in and around the squad ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea, though it remains a long shot for him to be involved even with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min unavailable.
Whilst Parrott is attracting headlines, it seems that there is another 16-year-old Irish talent making waves at Spurs, who isn’t quite garnering hype like Parrott is.
Left back Dennis Cirkin was born in Dublin, and whilst he has been featuring for England’s Under-16’s and Under-17’s, he may have a big decision to make on his international future down the line.
On Wednesday, Cirkin lined up for Spurs in an Under-23 match against Athletic Bilbao, with his potential summed up by being included alongside and against players considerably older.
Cirkin doesn’t turn 17 until April, but his performance against Athletic Bilbao has been picked out by coach Wayne Burnett as a particular highlight from Wednesday’s 5-4 win when speaking to the club’s official website.
“I was really pleased with some of our performances. Dennis Cirkin did well, a young player who showed maturity,” said Burnett, with Cirkin seemingly standing out more than the likes of Tashan Oakley-Boothe and even Vincent Janssen.
Neither Ben Davies or Danny Rose have nailed down the left back spot in the Spurs first team this season, and Cirkin will hope to keep developing over the coming years in order to take that spot – and possibly feature with Parrott in the Spurs first team.
