Liverpool are reportedly keen on Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe.

Liverpool’s search for a new centre back goes on, given that a deal for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk appears no closer to completion.

With Southampton reporting Liverpool for making an illegal approach to their Dutch centre back, Liverpool may well be forced to consider other targets before the end of the summer transfer window.

Now, RMC Sport in France report that Liverpool are now interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season.

A product of the PSG academy, Kimpembe made 28 appearances last season and showed real promise under Unai Emery, flashing pace and a promising reading of the game.

Kimpembe, a left-footed centre back with huge potential, looks set to have a massive future in the game, but it’s understandably claimed that PSG have no intention of selling such a promising young player.

Liverpool have money to offer up, but The Guardian did suggest a tentative link between Reds defender Mamadou Sakho and a possible returning to former club PSG, potentially handing Liverpool the chance to offer up a swap deal.

Sakho, 27, was completely frozen out by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp last season, and was subsequently loaned out to Crystal Palace in January, where he impressed before heading back to Anfield.

The centre back is widely expected to move on this summer, and suggestions of a return to PSG could make some sense. Paris-born Sakho came up through the ranks with PSG, becoming a fan favourite with more than 200 appearances for the club before leaving for Liverpool in the summer of 2013.

It has now been suggested that Sakho could return to offer competition for Thiago Silva and Marquinhos in the PSG defence, and if there is a glimmer of interest from Emery’s men, Liverpool should look to capitalise by proposing a deal for Kimpembe.

PSG may well reject the idea given Kimpembe’s potential, but with the French giants reluctant to sell, it may take a more creative idea to tempt them into a deal – and offering up Sakho could be the offer that gives PSG food for thought.
