Erling Haaland has become surprisingly popular on social media during the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Norway have overachieved a great deal at this summer’s tournament, in no small part due to Haaland.
The Manchester City striker’s interviews and general mannerisms have made him a popular figure with soccer fans, prompting many memes to emerge online.
Now, a CBS reporter has tried to eat like Haaland for the day.

Erling Haaland’s diet
The reporter travelled to Manchester, England, to eat at Haaland’s usual spots, including a sandwich shop where he has an item named after him.
Speaking about the Norwegian’s diet, the CBS journalist explained: “Could you eat like a Viking for a day? We are in Manchester, England, which is actually Erling Haaland’s, the Viking’s, hometown.
“We’re visiting some of his favourite food spots. He’s famous around here for eating raw whole foods, but a whole lot of them, like 6,000 calories. So we’re gonna see if we can do the same. Wish us luck.
“Four eggs scrambled, two pieces of sourdough toast, a black coffee with a splash of maple syrup, and lastly, a bowl of yoghurt. This is the Erling Haaland diet…. We’re gonna have raw milk.
“Meal number two. We are at Haaland’s favourite Italian sandwich shop where they have one named after him. Parmama, burrata, sun-dried tomatoes, rocket, and truffle oil, and pesto. It’s delicious. I am starting to feel very full.”
The reporter finished off by having a tomahawk steak and bone marrow for dinner and concluded: “I tried my best but have to admit defeat. I needed the crew to come in and help me finish that steak. It turns out eating like a Viking is delicious, but it is not easy.”
Haaland and his Norway teammates are due to face England in a World Cup quarter-final match on Saturday.
They have already made history by making it to the last eight of the competition for the first time ever, while the striker (seven goals) is still firmly in the race to win the Golden Boot (Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have scored eight so far).
