It looks like Celtic talent Andrew Gutman enjoyed an excellent MLS debut this morning.
Hoops boss Neil Lennon sent the 22-year-old defender to FC Cincinnati on loan a little earlier this month.
And the American right-back, signed by ex-Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in January, got off to a flier for his new side in this morning’s 2-2 draw at Columbus Crew.
Gutman gave a very good account of himself in defence and attack, and fans of the MLS side couldn’t have responded better to his post-match tweet.
Given Celtic’s shortage of right-backs, it was a tad surprising to see Lennon loan him out.
The Northern Irishman lost three players in that position this summer – Mikael Lustig, Jeremy Toljan and Cristian Gamboa – and signed just one, Hatem Abd Elhamed.
Lennon obviously decided that Gutman – who got a run-out in pre-season games – wasn’t ready for the Scottish Premiership.
Still, Kristoffer Ajer has been proving himself a very decent right-back in recent weeks, despite his 6’5 frame, and the big Norwegian scored in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Motherwell.
