Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke has jumped to the front of the queue of managers being pursued by Leeds United.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Gas confirmed an approach from the Championship side, but stressed that Leeds are yet to meet their demands.
It remains to be seen whether the Whites are planning a renewed bid for the 38-year-old, who’s been offered a new three-year deal at the Memorial Stadium, where he’s delivered back-to-back promotions.
Leeds, of course, already have a manager in the shape of Steve Evans, though the Scot’s contract expires at the end of next month.
Despite Evans’ insistence he’ll return to work on Wednesday following a short break, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, his Elland Road future is looking increasingly bleak.

If the 53-year-old is to be relieved of his duties, he’ll be the sixth manager to do so in Massimo Cellino’s two-year reign.
