The Southampton striker leads the Tottenham Hotspur ace in a key goalscoring category.
Southampton hitman Charlie Austin amazingly has a better goals per minutes ratio than Tottenham striker Harry Kane, according to Opta stats.
Kane, 24, is widely considered to be one of the continent’s most dangerous forwards, having finished 2017 as Europe’s top goalscorer.
Austin, meanwhile, is more unheralded, despite proving himself to be a clinical finisher throughout his time in the game.
The Saints hitman has bagged seven Premier League goals this term, compared to the Spurs striker’s tally of 24.
The 28-year-old has played just 700 minutes for Southampton in the top flight this season, however, whilst Kane has racked up 2,548 minutes of league action.
That, quite incredibly, leaves Austin ahead of Kane in the goals per minutes ratio.
Gareth Southgate would be wise to take note of the Southampton hitman’s impressive goalscoring record ahead of the World Cup in Russia this summer.
The former Queens Park Rangers and Burnley man is still yet to earn an international cap for England, but he should not give up hope just yet, especially if he can finish the season in red-hot goalscoring form.
