Amidst all the deserved positivity around Arsenal this season, there is unlikely to be a more heart-warming story than Reiss Nelson’s brace against Nottingham Forest.
After being injured for a majority of the ongoing campaign, the Englishman was handed a golden chance off the bench, with Bukayo Saka sustaining an injury.
While many questioned the decision, considering the Gunners were leading 1-0 at the time and Fabio Vieira was perhaps the more obvious choice, Reiss Nelson silenced all his doubters in emphatic fashion.
Showcasing his quick feet for the first goal, as well as his predatory instincts inside the box for the second, Nelson handed Arsenal a comfortable three-goal lead, as they eventually cruised to a 5-0 thumping.
While some may question the skilful winger’s sparkling display as just a rare moment in the sun, he has signalled his ambitions of penning a brand-new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
“I’ve never doubted myself. I have a very, very strong bond and love for the club. There’s been times where I’ve been a bit down, but my plan has never been to leave or say that I have no future here. Of course [I would like a new deal].
Getting a new deal would be amazing and I would love to commit to the club. But I’m just really, really focused on doing the right stuff”, he told GOAL.

At just 22 years of age, Nelson still has plenty of time to fulfil his incredible potential at Arsenal.
Considering the club lack strength-in-depth in the right wing position as well, it is plausible that the academy graduate is handed a new deal, provided he maintains his consistency and fitness levels till the end of the season.
With his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2023, Reiss Nelson must continue to grab his opportunities with both hands to secure his long-term future at the club.
