Linfield manager David Healy has congratulated Callum Marshall on his ‘wonderful’ move to Premier League giants West Ham United, speaking to the club’s official website.

There is certainly value to be found across the Irish Sea.

Seamus Coleman, remember, joined Everton as a teenager for just £60,000 all those years ago, establishing himself as one of the best pound-for-pound signings in modern Premier League history.

Kevin Doyle, meanwhile, scored 13 top-flight goals for Reading in the 2006/07 season, shortly after moving to the Madejski Stadium from Cork City.

Whether young Marshall can live up to Coleman or Doyle on English shores remains to be seen.

But given that David Moyes has handed first-team debuts to no less than 12 players since returning to West Ham in December 2019, Marshall should be assured that opportunities will come his way if he can fulfil his potential at the London Stadium.

Will Callum Marshall shine at West Ham United?

“I want to wish Callum every success with this exciting new challenge that he’s now setting out upon,” says Northern Ireland legend Healy, who’s Linfield side have also sold exciting young talent to Leeds United and Nottingham Forest in recent times.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for him at such a leading Premiership club in West Ham United.

“He’s been training with our first team squad all season and he’s made a very positive impression on all our players and staff.

“We are sure he has the attitude and determination that will be required to make the most of this amazing opportunity that has come his way.

“Everyone at Linfield is delighted with the recognition that both Callum and the club’s Scholarship scheme has earned and we will all be monitoring Callum’s progress with a keen interest.”

Another Ireland-based starlet, 19-year-old Killian Phillips, is expected to join Crystal Palace from Drogheda United while Celtic and Hibernian are going head-to-head for the signature of prolific Sligo Rovers striker Johnny Kelly.

Reports linking Danny Mandroiu with a move away from Shamrock Rovers have gone quiet of late, however, with reported suitors Celtic raiding the J-League instead for Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.
