Martin Odegaard has paid tribute to the ‘amazing’ Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The Real Madrid playmaker joined the Gunners on a half-season loan in January and it was reported that wanting to work under the Spaniard was a big reason behind his decision to sign for the North Londoners.

Arteta led Arsenal to FA Cup glory inside six months of becoming the club’s head coach and although his first full season hasn’t gone exactly to plan, there are signs that the 38-year-old – who had no experience in senior management prior to this job – remains the right man to lead the Emirates Stadium club back into the top four regarding the long term.

He played under Arsene Wenger for four years and later spent a number of seasons as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

And the 22-year-old Norway international has told The Standard that he’s been left very impressed by Arteta already.

He said: “It’s been amazing, he’s a top coach. He’s really intelligent, really smart and there are so many things I can learn from him so I’m just happy to be here and be able to learn and see how he works.”

Arteta continues to divide opinion among Arsenal fans as the North Londoners sit 10th in the Premier League with only 11 games to go, following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

But in terms of potential, there’s a hell of a lot there for both Arteta and Odegaard and it’ll be fascinating to see how the relationship develops over the next couple of months.
