Some Ajax fans on social media have been reacting after it was reported that Marc Overmars will not be joining Newcastle United as their new Sporting Director.
Overmars had been strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park, but it seems as though the Dutchman is going to stay loyal to his current club and remain in Amsterdam.
As you can imagine, Ajax fans were buzzing to hear Overmars will be staying, and it’s not hard to understand why.
Overmars has done a cracking job since arriving at the Johan Cruyff Arena in 2012. He’s assembled a squad that have won multiple league titles and even reached a Champions League semi-final back in 2019.
Factor in that Overmars is something of an Ajax hero from his playing days and it’s easy to see why the Dutch giants’ fanbase are over the moon to hear that Overmars won’t be going to Newcastle.
