Jose Enrique has claimed that it’s ‘amazing news’ that Andy Robertson wants to finish his career at Liverpool.

The former left-back responded on Instagram to Robertson sharing that ‘if he can stay at the top of my game’, then he wants to go down the road of staying at Anfield right until he hangs up his boots.

The 28-year-old moved to Merseyside in 2017 when he joined from Hull City as a low-key signing for Jurgen Klopp.

Whilst Robertson was a Premier League-worthy player, he wasn’t someone that was a rising star, one of the best in the league or someone who had big expectations on his head.

That’s probably what made his rise in Liverpool colours even more impressive and it showcased the coaching talent Klopp has at his disposal.

Either way, Enrique loved what he was hearing from Robertson and thinks, if he carries down his current road, then he could become the club’s greatest-ever left-back.

“This is amazing news,” said Enrique. “It’s amazing news from Robbo. For me, he’s been one of our key players for many years.

“Since Klopp joined the club, Robertson then arrived, he needed a little bit of time to adapt to Klopp’s style, and then when he adapted, he conquered that position.

“It’s true that this season, he hasn’t been at his best, that’s probably what some of you would say to me. Neither has the team, even Salah, who is our best player.

“I believe if he can stay at the level he has been performing at for many years, then he probably can go down as the best left-back for Liverpool, that’s if he can keep winning trophies, which helps a lot for you to remain big.

“Hopefully, he will stay for a long time because with his attitude, he is one who runs for the badge and it’s very positive news for us that he wants to (finish his career at Liverpool).”

ROBERTSON ONE OF KLOPP’S BEST BUYS

Whilst the likes of Virgil Van Dijk were, at the time, purchased for record-breaking amounts and have gone on to showcase their worth.

Someone like Robertson didn’t have that hype around him and he joined for a pretty small fee, by Premier League standards.

The likes of Manchester City have spent hundreds of millions on fullbacks over the years, yet Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold combined have cost no more than £12 million.

One came thriving from the Liverpool academy, whilst the other has been one of Klopp’s best-ever buys.
