‘Amazing’: John Giles says Marsch’s Leeds did something last week that was typical Bielsa

Speaking on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy, John Giles has been discussing Leeds United’s incredible comeback against Wolves last week.

The Whites came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against the Midlands outfit in what was a truly remarkable game of football.

United showed incredible heart and passion to come back from the dead, and Giles believes that the Whites showed the spirit that we’ve seen from them time and time again under Marcelo Bielsa.

Giles spoke about Leeds’ spirit.

“That’s what they’ve had in the past few years. The other night was amazing, I thought we would lose 6-0 at one point in the game. I think it’s typical of the Leeds we saw under Bielsa, they came from nothing and scored from nothing, they could have lost easily, but they were there, going, going and going,” Giles said.

This may be Jesse Marsch’s team now, but the win against Wolves was, as Giles says, typical Bielsa.

Think about the amount of times Leeds had similar performances under the Argentine in the Championship. The 3-2 wins against Aston Villa and Blackburn in 2018/19 live long in the memory, while the 5-4 win against Birmingham in 2019 was nothing short of miraculous.

Bielsa played a big part in instilling this fighting spirit into this Leeds squad, and while he may not have been in the dugout at Molineux, he certainly deserves a portion of the credit for that result.
