Mousa Dembele has taken to Twitter to pay tribute to Tottenham teammate Jan Vertonghen after the defender became Belgium’s all-time record appearance holder during the international duty.
Vertonghen passed the landmark during the Belgian’s World Cup qualifier with Cyprus on Tuesday, captaining the side and picking up his 97th cap for the country as Roberto Martinez’s men rounded off their qualifying campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win to finish nine points clear at the top of their group.

And after the game, Dembele – who was missing during the international break due to injury – took to social media to mark Vertonghen’s landmark moment.
While Vertonghen should be one of the first names on Martinez’s teamsheet in Russia, the 30-year-old will know just how much depth there is in virtually every position in their side.

So perhaps that depth will benefit Tottenham, as Vertonghen may feel that having to maintain his best form for Spurs is the best way to ensure that he gets the opportunity to continue collecting the caps.
And with plenty of depth within the Tottenham squad also, the centre-back may not be able to rest on his laurels either as Mauricio Pochettino has the options to be able to leave him out if his form dips if necessary.
