Unai Emery is the new Aston Villa Head Coach and there is a buzz around Villa Park, with a number of the current players previously working with the former Arsenal coach.

Calum Chambers is one of them and Emery has already shared his thoughts on the player, who Steven Gerrard started only once in the Premier League this season.

Back in 2019, Emery labelled Chambers’ attitude as ‘amazing’ and someone who would ‘help us in training and the dressing room’, as quoted by Football London.

“He helped. He helped us in the training, in the dressing room and when you need him to play right-back, centre back, left-back like tonight,” said Emery. “And if we can use him in the midfield also.

“His performance is starting with his attitude and his attitude is amazing.”

CHAMBERS TO EARN MORE STARTS UNDER EMERY?

It’s pretty baffling that Gerrard brought Chambers to Aston Villa from Arsenal on a free-transfer during the January transfer window, yet hardly played him.

Chambers’ last Premier League start was Villa’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham, and whilst it was an abject attacking performance from the team, he actually did very well in that game.

Yet, like last season, he found himself on the bench time and time again, which doesn’t make sense because the team wasn’t exactly performing.

But, with Emery now in the building, it will be interesting to see how he uses Chambers, especially given that he has spoken about the player’s versatility before and knows his game better than most already at the club.

During Villa’s 4-0 win against Brentford on Sunday, Chambers did come off the bench to replace Matty Cash at right-back, but he can also operate at the heart of a club’s defence as well as the middle of the park.

There are a lot of bodies in defence, but just not enough regular performers, summer signing Diego Carlos is injured, whilst Tyrone Mings has struggled in recent weeks and Ezri Konsa’s form has picked up.
