Ex-Everton man Johnny Heitinga sat down for an exclusive interview with Dutch media outlet Voetbal International, and blasted former Toffees boss David Moyes, labelling the Scot as ‘amateurish’.

The now 35-year-old was signed by Moyes for Everton from Atletico Madrid in 2009, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £6 million, and he went on to make 140 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.

The Toffees were actually a really strong outfit during Moyes’s time in charge at Goodison Park, and the Scot led them to five top-six finishes during his 11 spell on Merseyside.

Heitinga, though, criticised the 55-year-old, suggesting that the Scotsman’s ‘amateur’ methods took him by surprise when he joined Everton nine years ago, as quoted by Voetbal International:

“I remember it well. Manager David Moyes said during the last meeting that we were to arrive at the stadium at half past two. We played at three o’clock, I thought he made a mistake. I wasn’t used to it, this reminded me of a meeting time of an amateur team. But it was true, it was everyone’s own responsibility to eat well and rest. So my wife had to prepare the pasta.”

Since Moyes left Everton, he has seen his stock within the game fall off the side of a cliff.

He is currently out of work, having been sacked by West Ham at the end of last season.
