Amanda Anisimova shuts down political question about United States at Australian Open

Amanda Anisimova made her position clear when asked about representing the United States at this year’s Australian Open,

The 22-year-old, who was born in New Jersey to Russian parents, was questioned about whether recent events in the U.S. have complicated her feelings about competing under the American flag.

However, the world No. 4 responded firmly, expressing her pride in representing her country and the strong performances of American players in Melbourne so far.

Anisimova’s concise response drew praise from fans, who noted her professionalism during what could have become a politically charged exchange.

Amanda Anisimova’s firm answer on playing for the United States

During the press conference after winning her Australian Open second-round match, a reporter asked Anisimova:

“I’ve been asking a lot of the American players how it feels to play under the American flag right now. I’m curious how you feel.”

Anisimova responded: “I was born in America, so I’m always proud to represent my country. A lot of us are doing really well.

“It’s great to see a lot of great athletes on the women’s and men’s side. I feel like we’re all doing a great job representing.”

The reporter then pressed further, asking if events in the United States over the past year made things more complicated.

Anisimova dismissed the question entirely with her response: “I don’t think that’s relevant.”

Anisimova has been in dominant form at the Australian Open, dropping just ten games across her first two matches.

She opened her campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Simona Waltert in the first round, before following up with an impressive 6-1, 6-4 victory against Katerina Siniakova.

Her next test will come against Peyton Stearns on Saturday as she looks to make a deep run in Melbourne.

After a strong start to 2026, Anisimova has firmly established herself as one of the leading contenders for the title.

Few would be surprised if she is still in contention when the final weekend arrives.
