Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after Amanda Staveley revealed she has been texting Alan Shearer regarding a role at the club.

What’s the story?

Well, Staveley clearly knows what the Newcastle fans want to hear.

The 48-year-old revealed she’s been messaging Shearer, and said it’s now up to the BBC Match of the Day pundit to decide what he wants to do.

Staveley also told The Telegraph that she is looking to expand numbers on the Board, and that could include the addition of a fan at that level.

Clearly, Staveley, Jamie Reuben and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia are keen to build a bridge between the club and supporters.

There was already one, but it was slowly bulldozed by Mike Ashley.

As you can see below, the Newcastle fans on Twitter loved hearing that Staveley has been in contact with Shearer – unsurprisingly so.

In terms of strengthening your relationship with the fanbase, Staveley has hit the nail on the head.

Speaking about getting club legends involved, and also considering a fan on the Board, is always going to please supporters.

In truth, Staveley doesn’t have to say much to become popular – the fact her consortium has pushed Mike Ashley out of Tyneside is already enough.

However, these things go a long way.

For example, hiring Shearer – and also Kevin Keegan – in some capacity, and having them walk out at St James’ Park before the Tottenham game on October 17th would be special, and potentially game-winning

These sort of things send the fanbase into raptures, and Steve Bruce – if he’s still in charge – will surely see his side boosted by the atmosphere.

For now, let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about Staveley messaging Shearer…
