“Mahrez is good enough to play for Barcelona, but I am pleased he decided to stay with Leicester.”
Mahrez’s future was the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer, with both Chelsea and Arsenal heavily linked with signing the 25-year-old (The Express).
He went on to sign a new four-year contract with the Foxes, however, committing his future to the club, and Xavi claims that he excited to see how Leicester progress in the Champions League this season, telling Shortlist:
“It will be interesting to see how him and Leicester perform in Europe this season.”

It was vital for Claudio Ranieri to keep hold of Mahrez, after losing one of their other stars – N’Golo Kante to Chelsea.
The Foxes also managed to keep Jamie Vardy at the King Power Stadium after he spurned Arsenal’s advances. On top of holding on to two of their stars, Leicester have also invested heavily in their squad, and should be in a strong position to defend their Premier League crown.
