Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has outlined his desire to add pace to his attack, and Swansea City’s international winger could be the ideal signing.

Newcastle have recovered well from their poor start to life in the Championship, and two consecutive league wins have seen them rise to eighth position in the table.

Rafa Benitez has outlined his desire to improve further still on his options at St. James’ Park, after already making nine summer signings, and is targeting a winger with pace, as reported by the Chronicle.

An ideal target for the Magpies, albeit rather ambitious, would be Swansea City’s exciting winger Jefferson Montero.

The 26-year-old Ecuadorian arrived at the Liberty Stadium in July 2014 and has gone on to make 61 appearances for the Welsh outfit.

He has appeared in both of the Swans’ opening Premier League games this season, although neither of those have been as a starter, so tempting the club into selling him may be a possibility.

The Ecuadorian international has exceptional amounts of pace, and his style is very direct in nature. He is not afraid to take on the opposing full-back down the touchline, and could be considered as more of an old-school winger.

The attributes that Montero possesses will bring something different to the Newcastle set-up, especially after the departure of Andros Townsend earlier this summer.

Montero’s contract at Swansea only has two years left to run, which in modern football could leave the club in a vulnerable position should they let his deal run down any further.

A move to St. James’ Park has the potential to benefit all parties involved, and one that should be seriously considered by Rafa Benitez.
