Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of a proven goal-scorer to provide Harry Kane with competition ahead of the new season.
Would Bacca be a success in England?
Tottenham Hotspur have been chasing Dutch star Vincent Janssen over the past month or so, but have so far been unable to agree a fee with his club AZ Alkmaar.
De Telegraaf reported earlier this month how Spurs have failed with three bids for the 22-year-old, as AZ hold out for a figure closer to their £16.25 million asking price.
It has also been reported right here by Calcio Mercato that AC Milan have set an asking price of £21.2 million for their Colombian hit-man Carlos Bacca. Even with Mauricio Pochettino’s obvious preference for youth, it would seem a no-brainer that Spurs should make a move for Bacca.
The AC Milan man has been linked with a move away from the San Siro
He is certainly more proven than Janssen on the world stage, and he managed 18 goals in Serie A for a struggling Milan side last term. He is clinical when presented with a goal-scoring opportunities and has the rare ability to glide past players at speed, with the ball seemingly stuck to his feet.
While Janssen would be a fantastic understudy for Harry Kane, and certainly has plenty of potential for the future, Bacca would give the North London club an instant lift and make them a far more dangerous proposition going forward.
Harry Kane was prolific for Spurs last season but he needs someone to relieve the pressure on his shoulders
He could accompany Kane in a 4-4-2, or be used in rotation with the Englishman. The latter may prove more likely given Pochettino’s preference of the 4-2-3-1 formation. Kane is seemingly suffering from exhaustion after a long hard year of football, and the addition of Bacca could provide him not only a much needed breather, but also give him the added incentive to work even harder in pre-season, knowing that he has world class competition.
At the age of 29, the Colombian is by no means over the hill just yet, and could provide Spurs with a good few years of high quality service, should a move ever come to fruition.
Barca’s goalscoring record is extremely impressive
