Sunderland’s Duncan Watmore could be the ideal replacement for Ross McCormack at Fulham.

Sunderland striker Duncan Watmore showed glimpses of what he is capable of last season, but was not given the opportunity on a regular enough basis for him to have a genuine impact on the Black Cats’ season.
The 22-year-old England under-21 international is at the stage of his career now where the chance to play consistently will be crucial for his future development.
Whether he will get that opportunity at Sunderland under David Moyes is debatable, with Jermain Defoe almost assured of a starting spot, and the former Everton manager’s penchant for the 4-2-3-1 system.

Although Watmore is fully capable of playing in the wide-left role, it is though the middle, as an out-and-out striker, where his attributes are most effective.
He would be an ideal signing for Fulham in the wake of Ross McCormack’s exit from the club.
Watmore is of a similar size and build to the Scotland international, and has the potential to be a like-for-like replacement for the former Fulham man.
He is still highly regarded at Sunderland, so while a permanent transfer may prove difficult, a season-long loan would benefit both clubs and the player involved.

Watmore possesses blistering pace, and has a low centre of gravity akin to some of the Premier League’s great strikers such as Michael Owen and Sergio Aguero.
He always plays on the front foot, and tries to run in behind the opposition defence at every opportunity, which is exactly the kind of threat that Fulham have lacked since the departure of McCormack.
A loan move to Craven Cottage would provide the 22-year-old with the chance to develop his game through regular first-team action, and present him with the opportunity to learn the nuances of the lone striker role in what is one of the most physical leagues in the world.
The transfer would seem to be a no brainer for all parties involved, and should be seriously considered by Fulham, if they are to continue their impressive start to their season.
