The Hammers need to strengthen their squad in defensive areas.
Jeremy Pied would be fantastic free signing for West Ham
West Ham United find themselves a little short in the right-back area following the sale of James Tomkins to Crystal Palace.
The Hammers only have Sam Byram as a recognised right sided full-back, although Michail Antonio is capable of filling in if need be.
Jeremy Pied can play in multiple different positions
Jeremy Pied is available on a free transfer after his contract expired at Ligue 1 side Nice and the 27-year-old would be a great signing for the East London club.
He would provide ample cover for Byram in the right-back slot. His versatility also enables him to play on either flank as an accomplished winger, so he would be a fantastic all round addition to the squad.
Pied made 33 league appearances last term for Nice. He played at right-back for 23 of those games, left-back for seven and defensive midfield for three which highlights his proficiency in different areas of the pitch.
Jeremy Pied’s versatility would be extremely useful to the Hammers
The fact that he is available on a free transfer greatly reduces the risk when bringing a foreign player to the Premier League.
He will not be a regular starter but will provide experienced back-up, with enough pedigree to shine if called upon.
A move to the Premier League would surely appeal to Pied, and the chance of playing Europa League football with the Hammers should be a big enough pull.
Should any kind of move materialise, it would be one that would be greatly beneficial to both club and player.
Would West Ham manager Slaven Bilic consider a move for Pied?
