Tony Xia tweet suggests Aston Villa have completed the signing of James Chester from West Bromwich Albion.
Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia
Aston Villa’s charismatic new owner Dr. Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to confirm the signing of James Chester from West Brom by posting a picture of the two together.
Xia has received criticism in recent weeks for his highly prolific social media activity and his heavy involvement in footballing affairs.
Former Villa striker Andy Gray spoke of his concerns regarding the club’s owner, admitting to talkSPORT that he would like to see Xia take more of a backseat in club affairs.
James Chester
Xia, however, appears to have taken little notice of any criticism directed at him, and by posting the picture of him with Chester to his official Twitter account, he has effectively confirmed the deal before any official announcement was made by either club:
Villa endured a woeful campaign last season that eventually culminated in their relegation to the Championship, and a major contributing factor to their failings was their woeful defensive record.
Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has made moves to rectify Villa’s defensive woes
Roberto Di Matteo has quite rightly made moves to strengthen his defensive options by bringing in Tommy Elphick earlier in the summer, and now has added even further to that with the addition of the 27-year-old Wales international.
The transfer highlights the pulling power that Villa still have, despite their current standing in England’s second tier.
James Chester’s move to Villa appears to have been completed after Tony Xia’s tweet
