Yann M’Vila during last season’s loan spell with Sunderland
Sunderland will look to secure Yann M’Vila on a free transfer in January, after Rubin Kazan refused to lower the £8.5 million asking price, according to the Shields Gazette.
M’Vila, whose contract expires in four months with the Russian club, spent the entirety of last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, and was a mainstay in the Sunderland side, making 37 Premier League appearances.

The 22-capped France international was desperate for a permanent move to Wearside, and posted an Instagram message, which he later deleted, claiming to be heartbroken as a move failed to materialise (Daily Mail).
Despite the 26-year-old playing a key role in Sunderland’s survival last term, it is completely understandable as to why the Black Cats would not want to pay such a hefty fee for a player with just four months remaining on his contract.

The Shields Gazette go on to report that M’Vila has been left out of Rubin Kazan’s squad for their league campaign, and he took it upon himself to fly to England on deadline day in the hope that a deal could be struck between his parent club and Sunderland.
David Moyes has endured a challenging start to his time at Sunderland, and his side have managed a return of just one point from their opening three games.
