Newcastle United should consider one of their former players if they lose Daryl Janmaat this summer.
Daryl Janmaat celebrates scoring for Newcastle
Newcastle United’s transfer business seems to be far from over, with both incomings and outgoings still highly likely at St James’ Park before the transfer window closes.
Rumours have been rife this week regarding the future of Newcastle right-back Daryl Janmaat, with reported interest from West Ham United and Napoli gaining momentum (Goal).
If the Dutch international does eventually end up leaving the Magpies, Rafa Benitez must ensure that he makes the necessary moves to reinforce his defensive options accordingly.
Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy
An ideal signing for the North East outfit would be former player and Arsenal fringe man Mathieu Debuchy.
The Frenchman has failed to establish himself at Arsenal since his £12 million move to the Emirates two years ago, and has gone on to make only 12 Premier League starts for the Gunners.
The 31-year-old is highly experienced in English football, and would slot seamlessly into the Newcastle side.
Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy warms up
The former Lille man is an attack-minded full-back, so would be a like-for-like replacement for Janmaat, should he leave the club.
He is renowned for his marauding bursts forward, and his high energy levels enable him to get up and down the length of the pitch without tiring.
Much will depend on the outcome of Janmaat’s situation, but a move for Debuchy would seem like a no-brainer if Benitez’s hand is forced in the transfer market.
With the Frenchman seemingly being made surplus to requirements in London, prising him away from the Emirates should not prove too difficult.
