Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler has been a long-term target for Arsenal
Julian Draxler in action for Germany
Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claim that Arsenal have made a bid of £41.9 million for Wolfsburg winger Julian Draxler, with the Bundesliga outfit reportedly ready to accept the offer.
The Gunners’ transfer business has once again be ponderous throughout the summer, with the club’s obvious need for a forward and a central defender failing to be addressed as yet.
Arsene Wenger has found himself the target of heavy criticism from Arsenal fans for his reluctance to spend, and the atmosphere at the Emirates became toxic after the Gunners’ 4-3 home loss to Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

TuttoMercatoWeb go on to report that Draxler is keen on a move to the Emirates, although there has been no official confirmation of any bid from any representatives from the North London outfit.
While a centre-back is probably the area that requires the most urgent attention at Arsenal, a versatile attacker who can play anywhere along the front line will certainly boost their chances of challenging for the title, especially someone of Draxler’s quality.

The 22-year-old has a similar frame to that of a young Robin van Persie, who arrived at Arsenal as a winger. Should a move for Draxler come to fruition, could Wenger have a Van Persie-like striker transformation in mind for the German?
It will certainly be something to look out for.
