Sunderland are believed to be interested in the versatile German.
Schalke04’s Dennis Aogo
German newspaper Sport Bild is reporting today that Sunderland are interested in signing Schalke’s versatile German international Dennis Aogo.
The 29-year-old has 13 international caps to his name and can play in a variety of positions including left-back and midfield.
Sunderland manager David Moyes is looking to strengthen his squad
The versatility he would offer the Black Cats is obviously something that would appeal to manager David Moyes, and that combined with his vast experience of playing at the top level would make him a fantastic addition to the Sunderland squad.
Aogo joined Schalke from Hamburg in 2013 and has gone on to make 77 appearances for the Bundesliga club.
Dennis Aogo in action for Schalke
The report from Sport Bild goes on to claim that the Black Cats could face competition from La Liga side Villarreal for Aogo’s signature, while also suggesting that the German is using the interest as a bargaining tool in the hope of negotiating a new contract with Schalke.
While Moyes will not want to make drastic changes to his squad, there is certainly room for improvement, and if he managed to bring in a player of Aogo’s experience and versatility, it would certainly be a step in the right direction for the Wearside club.
