Real Madrid are understood to be interested in signing Arsenal’s French international defender Laurent Koscielny.
Laurent Koscielny is a key member of the Arsenal squad
French football outlet Foot Mercato are reporting that Real Madrid are targeting Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny, with the future of Raphael Varane growing increasingly uncertain.
Koscielny, 30, has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since his arrival from Lorient six years ago.
Foot Mercato claim that the Spanish giants see Koscielny as a potential replacement for Varane, with The Sun reporting that Madrid are ready to listen to offers for the 23-year-old Frenchman.
Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane’s future is uncertain
Varane has found himself behind Sergio Ramos and Pepe in the central defensive pecking order, and is approaching an age now where he will be desperate for first-team football.
Arsenal will surely resist any move from the Bernabeu club, however, with Koscielny seen as a vital member of the Gunners’ squad.
Koscielny has excelled for club and country over the past few years
Varane is currently out injured after suffering a hamstring injury in the build up to Euro 2016, while Koscielny continues to impress at the tournament at the heart of Les Bleus’ defence.
The Arsenal stalwart has made 246 appearances in his time at the club, and Gunners fans will be hoping he adds to that even further in the wake of Madrid’s reported interest.
Will Arsenal manage to hold on to Koscielny?
