Arsenal and Juventus fans will be disappointed to read reports from Italian news outlet Gazzetta World suggesting that Napoli will not sell Gonzalo Higuain for anything less than his £79 million release clause.
The Gunners interest in Higuain was reported last week (Sky Sports) but the price being touted to secure the Argentine’s signature will surely put off any potential suitors, especially when considering that Arsenal refused to up their offer of £25 million to acquire his services from Real Madrid three years ago.
Higuain is considered as one of the world’s best strikers
There is no doubting Higuain’s ability. After all, his goal-scoring record speaks for itself, and his pedigree on the world stage is matched by few. He scored a club record 36 goals in 35 Serie A appearances for Napoli last term and would surely improve any side in Europe.
However, at 28 his extortionate valuation will be enough to put off even the most cash-rich of clubs.
Napoli are reportedly refusing to budge on Higuain’s asking price
Gazzetta World go on to report that Juventus were hoping to sign Higuain for much less than his buy-out clause, but Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is refusing to budge despite the Turin club offering numerous players in exchange to sweeten the deal.
Both Arsenal and Juventus will most likely switch their attentions to other targets, as there is surely better value to be had than the financial package it would take to prise the Argentine away from Naples.
