Tottenham star Christian Eriksen is close to agreeing a new contract with the club, according to the Daily Mail.

The Dane’s future was thrown up in the air earlier this month after reports emerged claiming that the 24-year-old was demanding £150,000 per week (the Telegraph).

Eriksen’s lacklustre performances for Spurs during their opening three Premier League games have led to further speculation regarding his future, with the former Ajax man seeming a shadow of the player he was last season.

The Daily Mail, however, claim that the 61-capped Denmark international has decided to commit his future to the North Londoners, and is close to putting pen-to-paper on a deal worth £80,000 per week.

Eriksen moved to White Hart Lane three years ago for a fee believed to be in the region of £12.5 million, and has gone on to make 134 appearances for Spurs.

During that time, he has contributed with 30 goals and 26 assists, and in the financial context of the modern game, a player of his calibre is deserving of at least the £80,000 per week being reported.

Tottenham are certainly a club on the rise, and keeping Eriksen will be vital to their hopes of continuing their progression.
