Pep Guardiola will arrive at Manchester City in the summer with many high profile targets rumoured to be on his wish list.
The Daily Mirror believe that incoming Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is targeting Arsenal duo Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sánchez in what would be an ambitious summer raid.
The newspaper claims that the Spaniard wants to build his midfield around the 24-year-old Wilshere, and rates Sánchez, 27, very highly.
A lot is expected of the Citizens next season, following a dismal Premier League campaign. A horrendous run of form since the new year saw them drop out of contention for the title, and left their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.
With two years left on Wilshere’s contract, The Mirror claim that City are weighing up a £40 million bid, while Sánchez’s future is highly in doubt, with reports of him balking at Arsenal’s offer of a £160,000 per week deal. The Chilean does, however, still have two years remaining on his current deal, so any move would still be accompanied by a hefty transfer fee.
The question for manager Arsène Wenger and Arsenal, is how long do they persist with Wilshere? He is at an age now where he will still command a huge transfer fee, and at some point, the Emirates hierarchy must surely consider the sale of one of their brightest young English talents given his ongoing injury problems.
Sánchez has cut a forlorn figure of late, and if Wenger is set to embark on a huge spending spree as predicted, maybe he will deem the former Barcelona man dispensable.
While the future of Arsenal’s duo remain uncertain, one thing we can be sure of is the high volume of transfer activity at the Emirates and the Etihad over the summer.
