Report: Newspaper understand Arsenal's Chambers has been made available for loan

The Telegraph are reporting that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is prepared to let Calum Chambers leave the Emirates on loan, as he steps up his search for a new defender.

The former Southampton man endured a difficult 2015/16 season, and found his first-team opportunities limited. The newspaper understand that Wenger has now sanctioned a loan move for the player, in the hope that it will help develop Chambers into a more rounded Premier League player.

Chambers, 21, was part of the England U21 team which won the Toulon tournament in Japan on Sunday, and The Telegraph report that numerous Premier League club officials were in attendance following being alerted to his availability.

The newspaper claim he was scouted by representatives from Southampton, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Swansea City and Watford.

The Telegraph also report that Wenger has identified a top class defender as one of his priorities and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has emerged as a potential target, with the Senegal international valued at around £20million.

Wenger is understood to rate Chambers highly, however, and sees him as a future centre-back for the Gunners, with the hope that a loan move will aid his progression.
