Nicolas N’Koulou is an experienced defender who would bring a touch of quality to all those interested in signing him.
N’Koulou’s contract with Marseille is due to expire at the end of this month
Sport France report that Bundesliga side Schalke have entered the race to sign Marseille ace Nicolas N’Koulou, whose contract with the French club expires at the end of this month.
talkSPORT claim that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing the Cameroonian to the Premier League this summer, but now face more competition after Schalke reportedly joined the race by making a last ditch effort to sign N’Koulou.
N’Koulou is renowned for his ability to break up play
The 26-year-old has been at Marseille for five years following his move from Monaco in 2011, and has gone on to make 187 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.
N’Koulou’s versatility is a major string to his bow, and he is just as capable playing in the centre-back position as he is sitting in front of the back-four in a holding midfield role.
N’Koulou already has 68 caps for Cameroon
He will represent a fantastic coup for whichever club eventually signs him, as he is still to enter the prime years of his career. Both English clubs would benefit from having the versatile Cameroon international amongst their ranks, as would Schalke.
talkSPORT also understand that Sevilla and Lazio are interested in signing the energetic ball-winner. With so many potential suitors, both Liverpool and Spurs will have to pull out all the stops if they are to convince N’Koulou to move to England.
