Speaking to German publication Express, Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil has insisted that contract talks between himself and the club will resume shortly, but refused to rule out a move away from the club in the future, reported via Sky Sports.

The German was a star performer for the Gunners last term, chipping in with 19 assists and six goals in 35 Premier League outings, and he explained how his country’s participation in the European Championships held up contract talks:

“I have a contract until 2018. We have had discussions, but they were suspended for the European Championship. I wanted to focus at this time only on the national team. Now we look to continue the negotiations.”

Ozil moved to the Emirates in September 2013 for a fee of £42.5 million, and although he struggled to justify that price-tag early on in his Arsenal career, he has now become the Gunners’ talisman, and started to prove that he is one of the best playmakers in the world.

During his exclusive interview with Express, the 27-year-old did, however, refuse to rule out a move away from London in the future, highlighting the MLS, and Los Angeles in particular, as a possible destination, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“In football, you can never say never. You don’t know what will happen. Eventually moving to MLS could be an option. I have fun everywhere. My fans know that I like to spend my vacation in Los Angeles, because the city inspires me.”

Ozil is currently with the German national side on international duty as they prepare to take on Norway this evening, and will be in confident mood after scoring one of his country’s goals in their 2-0 victory over Finland on Friday night.
