Manchester City are believed to be close to singing the Argentine who has been on loan in La Liga for the past two seasons.
Geronimo Rulli spent the last two seasons on loan at Real Sociedad
The Express is reporting that Manchester City are close to signing Argentinian goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli for a deal believed to be in the region of £7.5 million.
Rule plays for Uruguayan club Deportivo Maldonado, but he has spent the last two seasons on loan in La Liga with Real Sociedad.
The Express goes on to claim that Liverpool were also interested in Rulli before they opted to sign Loris Karius instead.
Rulli would provide stiff competition for Joe Hart, should a move come to fruition
Joe Hart’s performances for England at the European Championships were shaky to say the least, and were cause for much criticism from fans and pundits alike. He will head into the season under intense scrutiny from the media and he will have to prove his worth to new boss Pep Guardiola.
Rule, 24, made 61 appearances for Real Sociedad during a two-year loan spell with the club, but a move to City would likely see him serve as Hart’s understudy, at least for the early stages of his time at the Etihad Stadium.
Geronimo Rulli in action
With Guardiola’s arrival at City now official, every player in the squad will have to show him they are deserving of their place in the side.
He is notorious for being utterly ruthless when it comes to omitting players from the team, regardless of their reputation. He discarded Ronaldinho during his time at Barcelona because he did not like the rumours of how he lived his life away from the pitch and his lack of discipline on it. He sanctioned the Brazilian’s sale without even taken a training session with him.
If Rulli’s move to the Etihad comes to fruition, Hart will have to double his efforts to ensure he is not usurped as City’s number one.
